Wilmington City Council approves purchase of M-Vac system

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council has approved the purchase of new DNA collection technology to help solve crime.

The M-Vac system is a vaccum-based DNA collection device.

M-Vac CEO Jared Bradley gave WWAY a demonstration of the device earlier this year.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office purchased one in July. The device can collect 200 times more than conventional methods to help solve cold and current cases.

It costs more than $38,000 and will be purchased with NC Drug Tax revenues.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office was the first law enforcement agency in our area to purchase an M-Vac system.
