Wilmington City Council selects company for Convention Center hotel
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington City council met tonight and one item on the agenda stood out. The convention center hotel selection.
We have the convention center and by all reports it is doing very well. Wilmington is a great destination city with many attractions for convention visitors.
And while the hotel process has been dragging on, the city has been working with the help of consultant Tony Peterman and Atlanta based Strategic Advisory Group.
Mr. Peterman makes the announcement. “There is one team left and that is Harmony Hospitality and we are recommending that the city move forward with negotiation with that company. What can you tell us about Harmony, what kind of hotels do they operate? They have approximately five full service hotels, some beachfront hotels, and some airport hotels. And some limited service hotels as well.”
Wilmington City council voted to accept the recommendation and move ahead with Harmony Hospitality. Under the cities criteria the hotel would be full service with about 200 rooms. Harmony is proposing a Sheraton hotel. If construction begins early next year, the new hotel could open in 2014.
