Wilmington City Council supports new access to Vertex plant, removal of trees
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington City Council approved a resolution of support for an additional access to the Vertex rail facility Tuesday night.
Vertex plans to bring 1300 jobs to the area.
The council was divided over where the access should go. The access that NCDOT suggested would run right through the middle of a neighborhood. Council said they would like NCDOT and Vertex to discuss different alternatives for the access.
But, Vertex said they would like for the access to be done by May and Council said they aren’t sure if that’s possible.
Wilmington City Council also approved a contract to remove 50 trees around the city that they say are so diseased, they pose a safety hazard to the public.
