Wilmington delivery driver robbed, struggles with suspect over gun
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington police are investigating after a delivery driver was robbed early this morning.
It happened at 1:24 a.m. on Kolbe Lane.
Police say a Munchies delivery driver told them he was delivering food to Avalon Apartments. The driver told police a black male in grey sweatpants and grey sweatshirt walked up to him and told him he lived on the second floor. He asked the driver to follow him upstairs. Police say the driver told them when they got to the second floor, the suspect turned and pointed a gun at him, and demanded cash. The driver gave the suspect some money. The driver told police the suspect said that wasn’t enough and demanded he take him to an ATM to get more.
Police say the suspect got into the delivery driver’s passenger side of the vehicle. The driver and suspect then struggled over the gun. Police say the driver pushed the gun away and then ran off.
The suspect fired a shot and then also took off.
Police say no one was hit.
