Wilmington FBI agent honored for helping find abducted girl

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An FBI agent who worked alongside the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to locate an abducted girl is getting honored on the national level.

The National Association of Police Organizations chose Supervisory Senior Resident Agent (SSRA) Stanley Meador for the “TOP COP” honorable mention award winner in North Carolina.  Meador received his award during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. Earlier this month.

Meador worked with New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office on September 14, 2016, when a six year old child was abducted from her driveway. He played a critical role in locating the girl who was later found chained to a tree in a wooded area.  Just three days prior to finding the girl, FBI officials say SSRA Meador had completed his 24th chemotherapy round in his second personal battle against cancer. Since then, they say he had surgery and is doing well. Meador is back at work as the supervisory agent in the FBI Wilmington Resident Agency.

The TOP COPS Awards began in 1994 with a purpose of educating the public about our nation’s heroes and to pay tribute to law enforcement officers in federal, state, county, tribal and local agencies from across the country for actions above and beyond the call of duty during the preceding year.
