Dog saves homeowner from fire
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A four-legged hero saved a woman from a house fire near downtown Wilmington Monday morning.
The call came in around 11:45 a.m., reporting a house fire on North 6th Stree.
When firefighters arrived, the homeowner was outside and a dog was still inside.
Firefighters were able to rescue the dog, giving him oxygen after he was retrieved.
Wilmington Fire Department spokeswoman Rebekah Thurston said the homeowner credits the dog with saving her life.
“Reports from those that were home and around the area is that the homeowner was asleep, and the dog was actually tugging on her to wake her up, so she was able to get out safely thanks to that dog and them alerting them that there was a fire,” Thurston said. “So we’re just really glad that were able to find him and get him out.”
