Fire crews: Food left unattended on stove sparked fire
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Fire investigators have ruled a fire that started in a Wilmington home this afternoon as accidental.
Wilmington firefighters say it happened at a home in the 600 block of S. 11th Street.
They got the fire under control around 1:00 p.m.
Firefighters say it started in the kitchen on the stove. The cause of the fire was unattended cooking. The fire department says a working smoke alarm alerted the residents of the fire.
Fire crews say the fire was confined to the kitchen, but there is smoke damage throughout the home.
It’s estimated the fire caused $10,000 in damage.
The American Red Cross is helping the family.
Firefighters say no one was hurt.
