Wilmington insurance agent charged with embezzlement

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An investigation by state regulators landed a Wilmington insurance agent in jail.

Amneris Deleon, 34, is charged with one count each of embezzlement by an insurance agent and accessing a computer to defraud or obtain property. Investigators arrested her Friday. She is out of jail on $2,500 bond.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Deleon, who owns and operates ADE Multiservice in Wilmington, of collecting approximately $1,200 from a customer over the course of eight months for a worker’s compensation policy that did not exist. Investigators say Deleon created a fraudulent document to make it appear as if a valid policy existed.
