Wilmington man charged in five robberies


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –Wilmington Police say they have arrested a man in several robberies that took place during a five week period.

Detectives arrested Andre Daniels, 40, yesterday around 9:00 a.m.

He is being charged with the following five robberies:

February 7 at 2:36 p.m.
Police say Daniels physically assaulted a 60-year-old woman and stole her cash and credit cards in the 2600-block of Carolina Beach Rd. The victim had minor injuries.

February 9 at 11:42 a.m.
Police say Daniels robbed the Safeway Food Mart at 3316 Market St. He grabbed money from the cash register and ran from the store.

On February 15 at 6:25 p.m.
Police say Daniels stole money from the cash register in the lobby of the Carolinian Inn at 2916 Market St.

February 24 at 8:00 p.m.
Daniels is accused of grabbing money from the cash register of the Scotchman at 310 South College Rd. After stealing the cash, police say Daniels took off in a grey Chevrolet Impala. Officers located the car shortly after the robbery and tried to stop it. After seeing the officers, Daniels sped off and ran through a stop sign. Daniels crashed the car into shrubbery and a home, then ran off. Officers discovered that there were three children, unrestrained, in the back seat of the Impala.

March 14 at 8:45 p.m.
Police say Daniels assaulted and robbed a 62-year-old woman of two cell phones and cash in the 1100-block of Princess St. The woman had minor injuries.

Daniels is charged with three counts of common law robbery, two counts of larceny from a person,  three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, reckless driving to endanger, two counts of driving with a revoked license, failure to heed lights and sirens, and resist/delay/obstruct an officer.

He is currently being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
