Wilmington man headed to prison following drug trial


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man will spend several years behind bars for a number of drug convictions.

The District Attorney’s Office said in a news release that Othello York, 48, was found guilty of possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the news release, the Wilmington Police Department was called to an address on Ashley Circle to serve an outstanding warrant for arrest on York for unrelated misdemeanor offenses in March 2017.

The District Attorney’s Office said officers found 38 individually wrapped bindles of heroin and 45 individually wrapped bags of cocaine in York’s pocket. Detectives
with the Wilmington Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant and found equipment used for the manufacture and distribution of narcotics.

York also pled guilty to obtaining the status of being a habitual felon.

He was sentenced to six to eight years in prison.
