Wilmington man pleads guilty to raping child several times

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man will spend decades behind bars for raping a child.

According to a news release from the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office, the Honorable W. Allen Cobb, Jr., sentenced Alberto Lucero to 41 to 59 years in prison, and ordered that he register as a sex offender upon his release.

The 45-year-old pleaded guilty to Monday to raping an 11 year old child in 2014. The defendant was convicted in Superior Court of sexual assault charges including rape of a child and taking indecent liberties with children. Detectives said that Lucero told them he sexually assaulted the victim several times, and monitored her menstrual cycle to prevent pregnancy. During the Wilmington Police Department’s investigation, the victim said the Lucero raped her repeatedly over a period of years.
