Wilmington mom promotes asthma awareness

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tropical Storm Ana forced the cancellation of the inaugural “I Love Lungs Wilmington” walk on Saturday. But an event to raise awareness about chronic lung conditions including asthma was hosted instead by Dunkin’ Donuts across from Mayfaire.

The woman behind the event is Laura Kellogg. Kellogg’s three children have severe asthma. She says they had to move their family from New England because of the poor air quality.

“We have to live within five miles of the ocean,” Kellogg said.

She says the constant ocean breeze has made life for her children much better. Her kids are able to participate in sports and other activities.

As a registered nurse and certified asthma educator she has taken the reins when it comes chronic lung condition awareness in her community.

“If people know their trigger it can be controlled,” Kellogg said.

The walk is planned for next year and Kellogg says she hopes the weather will be better.
