Wilmington murder suspect could face death penalty
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in broad daylight could face the death penalty.
Joseph Cornell Corbett III, 37, made his first court appearance this morning.
U.S. Marshals arrested him around midnight in the 1000 block of Dow Road in Carolina Beach.
Carolina Beach Police and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputies helped in Corbett’s arrest.
He is wanted in connection to the murder of Shantell Denise Williams, 42 in Wilmington on Tuesday.
Williams was shot on Dock Street between South 17th and 16th Streets. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.
Corbett is charged with murder.
The judge did not give him a bond.
