WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department’s K9 Zeus has received a bullet and stab protective vest.

A WPD spokesman said it’s thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K9 Zeus’s vest was embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Draco, Mount Airy, NC – EOW 10-16-24.”

Established in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

The group said they have provided more than 6,000 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states.
