Wilmington Police searching for murder suspect after beating victim dies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating an assault turned homicide after a man severely beaten last month died over the weekend.

Wilmington Police Spokeswoman Linda Thompson says Austin Clarkson, 57, of Wilmington, died after being taken off life support on Saturday.

She says the beating happened late at night on May 9 in the 1200 block of Spofford Circle.

Police say they don’t have many details about the assault, but it is now a homicide investigation.

Police are asking any witnesses who may have seen anything to come forward or use Text-a-Tip.
