Wilmington Police wants new technology to solve crimes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department wants to get new DNA technology to help solve crime.

On Wednesday, Wilmington City Council will hear a request to purchase a M-Vac system.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office was the first agency in the region to buy a M-Vac system in July.

M-Vac CEO Jared Bradley gave WWAY a demonstration of the device earlier this year.

Bradley says it is like a vacuum and is able to collect 200 times more DNA than a normal swab would.

The city says it will cost almost $39,000 and would be purchased with NC drug tax revenues.
