Wilmington summer tourism forecast looking good
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s national travel and tourism week, and with summer right around the corner and the Cape Fear being a hot spot for travelers, we decided to check out what could be in store for Wilmington this season.
“Well we’ve had a great year so far,” said Kim Hufham the president and CEO of the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority.
Wilmington sees travelers and tourists throughout the year, but in the summertime those numbers grow even more. Hufham said this year will be no exception.
“We’re hearing that our bookings for spring and summer are looking very strong. It’s an exciting time. The weather’s been great. We’ve had a really strong winter,” said Hufham.
Hufham said Memorial Day is the kickoff to the Wilmington summer season and the summer activities continue through Labor Day in September.
“Once school gets out, usually around the first week in June, we always look for families start coming down, family vacation time starts,” Hufham said.
She adds with the new additions to the River Walk, including North Riverfront Park, Downtown Wilmington will only become more attractive to travelers.
