Wilmington teen jailed in his own shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington teen is in jail after being charged in connection to his own shooting last winter.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay says officers served a warrant for Dontay Lamar Tolbert, 17, yesterday charging him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Lindsay says on Dec. 7, 2015, Tolbert was shot in the stomach in the 1500 block of S. 12th Street and was taken to the hospital in a car. She says an extensive investigation led police to determine Tolbert was the aggressor in the incident. The other man involved was not shot. Lindsay says police do not expect that other man to be charged.

According to jail records, Tolbert is in custody under $800,100 bond. He is due in court July 6.
