Wilmington urges downtown businesses to be wary of flooding
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The City of Wilmington says this weekend, as much as 2 blocks of Water Street could be affected with flooding just south of the Market Street intersection.
A city spokesperson says the National Weather Service has provided them with an update on river flooding for Southeastern North Carolina. Because of widespread flooding in our region, the Cape Fear River adjacent to downtown Wilmington will see tide levels of 1.5 to 2 feet above normal beginning this weekend and continuing into next week.
The result will be minor to moderate flooding at high tide for up to the next 10 days.
The city says business owners in the area are advised to take steps such as sandbagging to protect their properties. You are advised to stay out of the flood waters for their own protection.
