Wilmington YMCA unveils ‘Imagination Playground’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Nir Family YMCA unveiled its new imagination playground Wednesday morning.

The brand new equipment was donated by The CarMax Foundation and national non-profit Kaboom. The equipment included blue foam pieces of all shapes and sizes.

The goal is to let children use their imagination in a hands-on way to build all sorts of structures.

The event was free and open to any child one year and older.

The branch director for the Wilmington Family YMCA says the organizations want to give kids an active outlet to play.

“The purpose of the event today was to really open the eyes of parents and children to something that’s unique and has a different feel. It allows the children to use their imaginations and really build and it’s hard sometimes in this day and age. A lot of people are playing with computers,” said Branch Director Shannon Berg.

Berg says they want children to have a fun way to showcase their creativity, even indoors.
