Wilmington ALS walk generates over $35,000

Hundreds of people walked UNCW’s campus in to support friends and loved ones struggling with ALS.

Lou Gehrig’s Disease, as it’s more commonly known, attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

Walkers held up signs and wore clothing with the names of loved ones. Some walked in teams, others alone, but everyone was happy for the support in the fight against ALS.

“It mean’s a lot because my nana passed away recently from this disease and we’re just walking for her,” said Lauryn Trott.

Each year more than 100,000 people across the country participate in the event. This year the Wilmington walk raised more than $35,000.
