Wilmington honors citizens who saved elderly couple
Tuesday night, the city honored Wilmington Police Corporal Kevin Nedley and several citizens with commendations for saving an elderly couple from a sinking car.
Back in August, the couple drove their Lincoln Town Car into a retention pond off Racine Drive. The folks receiving recognition from the city got the man and woman out of the car. Tuesday night, Mayor Bill Saffo presented certificates to the rescuers.
“Feels nice to be recognized, you know, good deed, and it’s nice to know that someone was paying attention,” said Chad Taylor, one of the citizens who received commendation.
Gabriel Gaweda, Chris Grier, Tim Banford and Josh Masters were also recognized by City Council. Former Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Long was out of town and unable to attend. Joshua Gaweda is now on active military duty in Afghanistan.
