Wilmington man sentenced in death of UNCW student

A Wilmington man has been sentenced to up to five years in prison in the death of UNCW student Annie McLeod.

The 22-year-old girl was one of three people in the car struck by Kelvin Cardwell’s vehicle this past March.

Cardwell was charged with death by vehicle.

Police say he was driving recklessly, and without a license when his car crossed the center line.

His blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
