Wilmington Police investigate first murder of 2010

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a murder after the second shooting on the same downtown street this week. It’s the first murder of the year in the Port City. The shooting took place in the 800 block of Rankin Street just after 5 a.m.

Neighbors say they heard about seven gunshots. Quincey Rhodes, 38, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Wilmington Police Department.

“We are following-up some very promising leads, and the witnesses in the area are following up with us and giving us information, and it’s really refreshing to say we are getting leads with that and we hope to have something pulled together soon,” Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said.

District Attorney Ben David said the area where the shooting happened is one of the most dangerous blocks in Wilmington.
