Wilmington Police Officer says drunk woman bit him

Case#: 2010-005486
Time: 1:23 a.m. – Tuesday morning
Location: Incident began at 2501 S College Road – Slick & Red’s Saloon
Offense: DUI, Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner, Property Damage

Summary: A woman who was told to leave Slick & Red’s due to intoxication refused a cab and tried to leave in her own car. She hit a parked car in the parking lot, pushing it through the fence bordering the Wilmington Police Department’s Southeast Division Headquarters. Then she left the scene. A lookout was broadcast for her vehicle. A short time later, a county resident called 911 to report that a vehicle matching the lookout was stuck in his front yard. WPD officers met NHC deputies at that location and arrested the driver. While an officer was transporting the suspect to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, she began beating her head against the police car window. The WPD officer pulled over and requested EMS. After the prisoner was placed in the ambulance, she started spitting at officers and EMS personnel. When workers began to place a sheet over her face, she bit an officer’s thumb. Ultimately the suspect was transported to the NHC detention facility. Maria Josefa Rodrigues-Mewborn, d.o.b. 10-12-1979, of Wilmington was charged with DUI, Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner and Property Damage. She was released after posting $7500 bond.
