Wilmington replacing water meters

WILMINGTON — Good news for folks concerned about water conservation in Wilmington. The city’s campaign to replace older water meters appears to be helping.

Crews replaced 19,000 of the city’s 46,000 water meters over the last few years.

The new meters seem to be much more accurate and have significantly improved the city’s water usage accountability.

This year city officials say they have an unaccounted for water rate of about 10 percent. That’s down from almost 14 percent in 2006.
