Wilmington Sports HOF adds four members
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Even though no games were played, Sunday was one of the biggest sports nights of the year in Wilmington as the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame inducted four new members.
International surfer Ben Bourgeois, former New Hanover County Athletic Director Joe Miller and East Carolina Athletic Director Terry Holland were all inducted. Legendary boxing coach Sherriedale Morgan was inducted posthumously, but his widow Yvonne was there in his honor.
“We can’t win them all, we’re going to lose some, but we’re going to win the majority of the time,” Yvonne Morgan said. “Sherriedale is here, you don’t see him, but he is here. He would feel great. He is honored to the highest.”
The Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame was formed in 2006. The proceeds of the induction banquet go toward scholarships to schools chosen by each inductee.
