Wilmington takes top seed in Legion tourney

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The American Legion baseball state championship tournament will swing into action Saturday in Asheboro. Wilmington Post 10 earned the top seed for Area 2 Sunday night when they beat Whiteville Post 137 10-7.

Whiteville will slide into the second seed for Area 2. Whiteville plays Saturday afternoon in Asheboro with a first round game against Kernersville or Rowan County. Game time will be 4:30pm. Wilmington Post 10 will face Randolph County Saturday night in the first round of the state tournament in Asheboro at 7:30pm

The winning legion team from the state tournament will advance to the southeast regional in Tennessee in early August. The winner of that regional will advance to the World Series for American Legion baseball in Spokane, Washington.
