Wilmington walkers raise Breast Cancer awareness

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Men, women, children and pets put on their pink and made strides for Breast Cancer on Saturday. Downtown Wilmington was flooded with pink paraphernalia as thousands of people put on their walking shoes to support Breast Cancer research. Survivors walked with their friends and families, and others came out in honor of loved ones who have battled the disease. Jenny Shope’s mother, Pearl, lost her battle with breast cancer when Jenny was just 18, and Jenny herself is fighting stage four Lymphoma today.

“She loved everybody, and everybody loved her. What can I say; she was an angel walking on Earth” Jenny said.

Jenny has realized that the key to life is giving back, and she believes life is too short to not be happy everyday. Many others at the Making Strides walk have similar stories about mothers, grandmothers, sisters and friends, and the personal experiences are what have made this event so successful after only three years in Wilmington.
