Wilmington Convention Center, other buildings damaged during storm
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Heavy rains from Hurricane Florence damaged some City of Wilmington businesses and offices.
A city spokesman says the Wilmington Convention Center didn’t flood, but rain did make it in through the roof and sideways rain also made it inside.
Dylan Lee says the ballroom did ok, but some of the small meeting rooms and administrative offices and exhibit hall got wet.
They had to cancel a wedding scheduled for this weekend.
Historic Thalian Hall fared well, however. Lee said the building had a couple of leaks, but those were in known trouble spots.
The city has a long term lease with the Harrelson building downtown. The city says the 5th floor of that building had damage. Human resources and the budget offices have temporarily relocated to a conference room at the Wilmington Police Department during remediation.
