Wilson Center packed as professional ballerina performed ‘Sleeping Beauty’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There was a packed house at The Wilson Center as world renowned ballerina Dara Holmes made her way back to Wilmington to perform in Sleeping Beauty Sunday afternoon.

At eight years old, Dara Holmes had a natural gift for dancing. She started her career taking lessons at the Wilmington School of Ballet under the direction of Elizabeth Hester.

Holmes is considered one of the top 10 African American ballerinas in the world. She learned how to dance here in Wilmington. Now, she is in Chicago with the Joffery Ballet.

At the end of the show tonight, during the final bow, Holmes’ kindergarten teacher came on stage to talk about how proud she is of who Dara has become.

WWAY evening anchor Daniel Seamans was Master of Ceremonies.
