Wings Up Player Profiles: Denzel Ingram
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In just two seasons with the Seahawks, Denzel Ingram has become the focal point on this red hot offense.
We could go on and on all day about what he brings to the team, but nothing compares to the ice in his veins that he has as time is ticking down.
Some crumble in that do or die situation at the end of the game, but not #10.
“You really don’t have anything to lose in that moment so you might as well just lock in and hit it,” Ingram said.
Being clutch isn’t something new to Denzel. Let’s throw it back to last year where UNCW was tied with first place on the line.
“Yeah that was a pretty big moment, but winning the CAA Championship was probably the biggest one though,” Ingram said. “It was a great experience. It was lit, it was fun, it went up.”
Back to back CAA titles are nice, but he speaks for everyone when he says he wants more.
“Yeah once you get a taste of it, you want to keep winning so that’s just simple as that,” Ingram said.
It seems pretty simple, but it takes a lot of hard work to get where Ingram is.
This season the team in teal is having the best season in program history.
A lot of that has to do with the play of Ingram beyond the arc.
Wilmington hasn’t always been home to Denzel Ingram.
He spent the first two years in Charlotte before transferring to UNCW and having to watch from the sidelines.
“It was a tough transition being off the court for a year but it went well,” Ingram said.
And it’s paying off now. He is a key piece to this high flying offense, but he doesn’t think it’s all him and his 800 points for the Seahawks that is making his team win.
They are victorious because, “My teammates,” Ingram said. “Good teammates play well together and everyone is unselfish. I mean, everyone has an opportunity and the same chance.”
The work isn’t over for Ingram. He’s always looking for ways to get better.
“Probably just perfecting my craft, staying in the gym and doing the necessary things,” Ingram said.
If Ingram and the Seahawks want to build off that CAA title and make some noise in the big dance, he has to keep making shots like these to help them get there.
UNCW takes on UVA this Thursday at 12:40 p.m. The game will be broadcast on truTV.
