Witness to arrest: ‘They were already on their knees’

CAROLINA  BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A man hunt that started in Cumberland County ended in New Hanover County Thursday.

A Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office new release says Cumberland County deputies, Carolina Beach police officers and FBI agents arrested Justin Quick, 20, and Misty Burns, 24, around 5:30 p.m. at the Buccaneer Motel in Carolina Beach.

They said the couple murdered a Fayetteville man, then took his car and fled. The news release said Carolina Beach Police saw the car at the motel and alerted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, described what happened when officers knocked on the couple’s motel room door.

“They were already on their knees with their guns drawn and everything, and they were like, ‘Get out, get out, get out,’,” said the witness. “Me and my son had to go in Nikki’s Sushi to get out.”

Deputies said Quick and Burns are charged with murder and theft.

Firefighters discovered 49-year-old William Ted Foster’s burned body while responding to a brush fire Tuesday night in Fayetteville. Investigators said the couple killed Foster, dumped his body and then set it on fire.

Quick and Burns are expected back at the Cumberland County Detention Center late Thursday night or early Friday morning.
