Woman accused of abusing elderly family member

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County woman is facing charges in connection with an elder abuse investigation.

Records show Cynthia Anne Smith, 62, was charged Saturday with one felony charge of abuse of an elder causing physical injury and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and resist arrest. She was booked in the Brunswick County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

According to an Oak Island Police report, officers Smith abused a family member on more than one occasion. It did not specify the dates of offenses or the injuries the person sustained.
