Woman charged with murder four months after shooting


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A woman in the New Hanover County Jail has been charged with murder after the man she is accused of shooting died months later.

Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Linda Rawley says Deniece Shaquenna Cohens, 27, was charged with 2nd-degree murder during a court appearance today.

Cohens had been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill on August 11. Around 3:40 that morning, police responded to a domestic violence call in the 800 block of 4th St. When they arrived, they found Demon Rashawn Johnson, 39, in the upstairs apartment. He had been shot in the neck.
