Woman creates nursing clothing line for other moms
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County mother recently launch a company called Milk Closet. It’s a clothing company for new moms who are nursing.
She wanted to have the clothing available for women by World Breastfeeding Week which starts today.
“I hope they feel beautiful, and confident, and comfortable, and empowered,” Amy Szwejbka, Owner and Mother, said.
Most parents would agree children come first before fashion.
Szwejbka said, “After four babies of my own, I struggled to find shirts or tops were stylish.”
She says the constant busy schedule had her focusing less on herself and her closet.
“Not everyone breastfeeds, which is a personal choice, but those who want to breastfeed, our choices were limited,” Szwejbka said.
She knew from personal experience that moms needed more options.
“My goal is was to find something that was cute and both functional and comfortable for women to be able to confidently go breastfeed,” Szwejbka said.
She is a NICU RN and a lactation educator which is where her passion to support women who choose to breastfeed started.
The seven shirts styles make it easier for moms to discreetly breastfeed. The shirts hit the market in early July.
Szwejbka hopes to add dresses, bras, and other clothing options too.
“Other people have reached out to me and said I’m not even breastfeeding and I want to wear your shirts because they are cute and which we are like yes, that’s what we were going for,” Szwejbka said.
While the shirts are made for women who need to feed their baby, the material and cuts also work for any new mom.
“You start to get your figure back, you start to want to go out and about with your baby and you’re just not comfortable with these frumpy or obviously nursing shirts,” she said.
From work to a date night to a just a day of errands, Szwejbka created these options to wear through all stages of motherhood.
