Woman in critical condition after car runs red light

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –- A Hickory woman is in critical condition after Wilmington Police say she was hit by a car downtown Tuesday morning.

Investigators say just before 11 a.m. Lisa Dietz, 55, was crossing the street when a grey Volvo, traveling northbound, ran a red light at Third and Castle Streets.

When a second car entered the intersection, police say the driver of the Volvo swerved, hitting Dietz.

Police say Dietz was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for what they say is a serious head injury.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Volvo according to spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
