Woman hit, killed on I-40 in Pender County
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Rocky Point woman standing beside her stranded car was struck and killed on I-40 over the weekend.
The accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-40 around 2:30 pm. Sunday.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 43-year-old Lashawnya Green had a flat tire and was standing on the shoulder of the road.
Marco Antonio Vega Lopez of Garland was driving a vehicle and attempted to change lanes.
Lopez then struck another vehicle driven by Melissa Lizbeth Cruz-Cruz of Rocky Point.
Highway Patrol says Cruz’s vehicle struck and killed Green.
Lopez was charged with making an unsafe lane change and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
