Woman pleads guilty to using Facebook Messenger to solicit sex

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman pleaded guilty to charges in a Pender County courtroom Tuesday after she was charged for contacting a teenager on Facebook Messenger to solicit sex.

The district attorney’s office said Ramesha Sharmene Armstead, 34, pleaded guilty to solicitation of a child by computer and appearing, and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Armstead was sentenced to up to 30 months of a suspended sentence and 30 months of supervised probation, according to a release. Armstead will also have to register as a sex offender for 30 years.

According to a release, Armstead contacted a 14-year-old male victim on Facebook Messenger to solicit sex between July 16 and August 4 of 2016. Armstead was arrested at a proposed meeting site in Pender County on August 4.

Detectives with both the Pender County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police Department investigated the case.
