Woman trying to elude police crashes car into utility pole

JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Police in Jacksonville say a woman trying to elude officers during a traffic stop caused a widespread power outage when she crashed her car into a utility pole.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reports 23-year-old Alexandria Latrice Carr faces a number of charges, including driving with a license revoked while impaired, reckless driving to endanger and speeding in a school zone.

Warrants say Carr was driving without a valid license while being pursued by police on Wednesday. The warrant says Carr drove through a red light before hitting the pole and damaging a transformer.

Steve Goodson of Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation says the power outage affected about 3,800 customers for about 45 minutes.

Carr is jailed on a $100,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
