Woman who lost book challenge speaks out
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A woman who challenged a book in the Brunswick County School system she found offensive is speaking out.
Frances Wood filed a protest of ‘The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian’ to West Brunswick High School. Wood said she’s not surprised she lost the challenge.
She said in a statement, “I know everyone thinks I am totally disappointed, but not so. I knew the book would not be taken out of the school. I used this way to let parents (that didn’t hear about the previous request) know that filthy books were in the schools.”
Last year, Wood challenged the book at Cedar Grove Middle School.
It’s because of this, the school district won’t consider her new challenge.
