Woman accused of shooting boyfriend appears in court

WILMINGTON — The New Hanover County woman accused of killing her boyfriend had her first day in court Wednesday.

Betty Malpass is accused of fatally shooting Shane Holloway with a .22-caliber rifle just before noon Tuesday.

Neighbors say the victim is a registered sex offender with a history of drug problems.

Malpass is in the New Hanover County jail under $500,000 bond. Her next court appearance is on August 23.

No word yet on a possible motive for the shooting.
