Woman in critical condition after car hits her

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a car Wednesday night.

Wilmington Police say an 82-year-old woman was trying to cross Third Street when she was struck by a car.

The woman was leaving a nearby shelter when she was hit by a 20-year-old driving a Honda Civic.

The woman was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is currently in the intensive care unit.

Wilmington Police officers say speed and alcohol were not a factor.
