Woman killed in early-morning shooting

A 45-year-old woman is dead after an early-morning shooting in Wilmington’s Creekwood Community.

Police say a couple was driving in a truck down 30th Street between Emory Street and Clayton Place around 3 a.m. to pick someone up. The man in the truck said they asked two men if they had seen the person they were picking up. He says they two men walked up to the drivers side and demanded money. When the woman said they didn’t have any money, the man says one of the other men shot her in the head. Police say at least one other shot went into a nearby apartment building.

The victim is identified as Michelle Francene Crutchfield, age 45, of Wilmington.

Investigators are looking for two black men in their early twenties who were wearing dark clothes. One is described as having straight dreads, chin or shoulder length; the other has close-cut hair. They were last seen walking north on N. 30th Street.
