Woman dies while participating in UNCW research trial

WILMINGTON — A woman has died while participating in a research trial at UNC Wilmington.

A source tells NewsChannel 3 the woman collapsed on Saturday during an evaluation for the “Weight Wise Women” health program and was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

UNCW officials confirm there was a death associated with a research trial, but because the school’s institutional review board is still investigating, they couldn’t comment any further.
