FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Sheriff’s Dept. charges woman with filing false reports, sprayed graffiti on her own home

UPDATE: The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department has charged Kimberley Wilkins with 22 counts of filing false reports. She said vandals kept marking her house with graffiti. Investigators say she was doing it herself – then calling the sheriff’s department.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A New Hanover County woman says she’s fed up with the Sheriff’s Office. Her house and yard have been vandalized repeatedly, and she says county deputies aren’t doing anything about it. Deputies tell a different story. They say they’ve patrolled Kimberley Wilkins’s house for more than 20 hours but caught no one in the act.

Wilkins says someone’s out to get her. For the past nine months her house has been broken into four times. Someone’s cut her window screens and the gas line to her grill and spray painted profanity and threatening messages all over the place.

Wilkins thinks neighborhood kids or a neighbor she called the police on last August may be to blame. She can’t think of any other reason why someone would want to vandalize her home.

“I’m scared to stay home by myself,” she said. “I can’t work due to health problems, and I just want everything to stop and please, whoever is doing this, please leave me and my husband alone.”

Wilkins says she’s filed countless reports with New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies, but she’s getting little help. The Sheriff’s Office says it’s taking the problem seriously, but hasn’t ruled out kimberley wilkins as a possible suspect.

The Sheriff’s Office says Wilkins is on the waiting list for a camera and may get one installed next week.
