Women and hammers went to work on latest Habitat for Humanity home
This weekend, local women picked up their hammers and went to work on a new home.
The Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity remains hard at work on its latest home. What makes it unique is that women are building the entire home. The home’s first walls went up Saturday after about a month of work on the site.
One of the event’s volunteers was WWAY’s Grace Schwartz of “Your Hometown Show”. “This is not the last time I’ll be here. This is a phenomenal way to participate in your community and make a difference,” she said.
Volunteer Jenni Harris said, “You know you’re helping somebody move into a house that’s probably living someplace substandard. You know that you’re giving them something. And since they get to move in by Christmas, it’s kind of like a Christmas present to them. And they love it.”
Habitat for Humanity has built 108 homes in our area so far with more on the way. The current Women Build Project should be done for a pre-Christmas move-in.
