Woody White makes up mind on run for Congress
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Woody White has made up his mind about whether he will challenge Rep. David Rouzer in next year’s Republican primary for US House.
In a video posted on his website today, White announced he will not run in a rematch of the 2014 primary race.
White said he and his wife Tammie still believe new, fresh faces and real conservatives are needed in Washington, but this was not the time for them to commit to a campaign.
“Over the last few months, we have received calls from people all over this district, state and country encouraging us to run again,” White said in the video. “Because we care so deeply for this country we have done our due diligence by listening to them, and talking about it as a family. And we have concluded that the timing is not right for another fight right now. Who knows what the future holds.”
White also included a message for the current office holder.
“I hope that Congressman Rouzer finds his voice in the nation’s capital, that he will join forces with other conservatives in his caucus that are literally changing the course of this great nation,” White said. “I encourage David to fight for us; fight for our district and country. Stand up and be heard. Make a difference. It’s not enough to simply go through the motions and work only on reelection. Do something big. Lead us.”
White is up for reelection on the New Hanover County Commission. He did not say whether he will seek another term.
Candidate filing begins Dec. 1.
