Work on wooden walkway under Wrightsville Beach drawbridge resumes

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — You may notice construction happening just before the Heide Trask Bridge at Wrightsville Beach.

Crews are working on a new addition to the Cross-City Trail.

It’s a wooden boardwalk underneath the drawbridge connecting Airlie Road south of the bridge to the eastern end of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail.

The City of Wilmington says the project was on hold while the design was adjusted to accommodate for previously unknown underground utilities.

It will give walkers a safe way to cross Eastwood Road.

The city says it is the piece of the 15-mile trail.

Work is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
