Work to start on Lake Waccamaw bridge
LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — Work is scheduled to start next week to replace an aging bridge in Lake Waccamaw.
The NCDOT says crews will start work next Monday to replace the 61-year-old bridge on Canal Cove Road. The work will involve replacing the existing bridge with an aluminum arch box culvert and is scheduled to take up to 75 days, according to a news release.
The DOT says there is a signed detour associated with the project and motorists will notice traffic shifts as needed and can expect travel delays. Drivers coming in on the east side of the bridge will take Canal Cove Road and turn left on Flemington Drive to NC 214, turning left on NC 214 to Giles Byrd Road, on Giles Byrd Road turn left on Dupree Landing Road, Dupree Landing Road turn left on Wooded Acres Road, back to Canal Cove. From the west side of the bridge, motorists should use the same roads.
This work is part of an E. S. Wagner, Inc. Design Build Year 2 program in an $11.6 million contract. It was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
